Can we make a Alternative Gasoline?

Instead of building a new car why not make a new fuel that all cars can run on with no Modifications like they are trying to do with jet plains?

We've been doing it since the 1920's.

Carbon Monoxide and hydrogen gases react together in the presence of an iron or cobalt oxide catalyst to build hydrocarbon chains with the length of the chains determined by the pressures and temperatures that the reaction is kept at. The reactions are exothermic so heat must be removed from the reactor. This is known as Fischer Tropsch reactions.

The mixture of CO and H2 is now known as Syngas because of it's usefulness in synthesizing hydrocarbons but we used to call it wood gas, coal gas, town gas as it can be produced by the gasification of anything that burns such as wood, old tires, trash and dried sewage (gasification is burning in a reduced oxygen environment). This is the basis of Coal to liquid, and gas to liquid technologies which fueled WWII Germany and South Africa during the embargo. The US Airforce also has a CTL Fischer Tropsch jet fuel program as a hedge against geopolitical supply issues. They're not trying to do it, they have and are doing it.

FT diesel is being mixed in with our diesel in order to meet the new low sulfur requirements. Low temperature portable FT reactors are being proposed to convert stranded natural gas to liquids that can be transported with the crude instead of building a second set of pipelines to recover the natural gas.

The FT process is what was proposed with the Mars Direct program to generate methane as a fuel for the return vehicle.

The FT liquids are ideal designer fuels requiring no modifications of existing engines or infrastructure with the exception that the fuels may be too clean, many diesel engines use the sulfur in the fuel as a lubricant. FT gasoline is mostly iso-octane, FT diesel would be mostly iso-dodecane.

If FT fuels are produced from biomass such as wood from storm debris, trash, old tires and dried sewage, charcoal is a by product which if used as a soil amendment (biochar) sequesters the carbon for thousands of years hence FT fuels can be carbon negative. Note that carbon stabilized in charcoal form is not bio-available but does promote microbial growth beneficial to the plants.

The problem is that the facilities required are expensive as are the logistics of bringing feedstock to the facilities. Therefore with the exception of the military, facilities are unlikely to be built till oil prices are not just high but the minimum price of oil is expected to remain high. The high oil prices of last year came with projections that the prices would stay high for ten years so many companies invested in gasification/FT reactors to upgrade oil from the tar sands (referred to as oil sands in the US) and from oil shale. Unfortunately, the following drop in oil prices and the recession has made it unlikely that there will be investment capital for such products for quite some time just as the FT projects of the 80's were shelved for decades because of the oil price collapse of '86. It won't be the peak price of oil that prompts the switch to synthetic fuels but the minimum price of oil over a period of several years and the forgetfulness of investors.

Jet Lag $14.38 Josiah Wolf is in a bad way. The drummer/multi-instrumentalist for indie pop-hop, odd-jobs Why? -- and brother of head Why? guy Yoni Wolf -- penned this debut album in the evidently rocky wake of an 11-year relationship, which makes it a solo effort in more ways than one. The lone Wolf also played every note of these lonely, vibe-heavy arrangements, which aren't a far cry from the textural warmth and inventiveness of his work with Why?, but trend toward more simple, if not necessarily sparse, downcast chamber folk. "The Trailer and the Truck" kicks things off with a bit of gusto -- its familiar loping marimba figure and dreamy synth pads offset by rapid-fire drums in martial, measured spurts -- but things stay pretty mellow from there on out, leaving the focus squarely on Josiah's often fragile vocals, which bear a clear familial resemblance to his brother's gruffly personable speak-singing. And that's a fine place for the focus to be: Josiah isn't quite as flashy a wordsmith as his notoriously loquacious sibling, but his more plain-spoken (if still poetic) style can be quite potent, particularly at its most unfiltered and direct. Jet Lag is unambiguously a break-up (well, post-break-up) record, through and through, with plenty of emotionally blunt appraisals of that situation ("Unused 'I love you's build up in my throat/And my apartment smells like divorce," "For eleven years, we didn't touch another/and now I can't sleep") that cut to the core. But Wolf also finds more interesting ways to explore his heartache than simply wallowing in it -- sifting through memories both fondly distant ("That Kind of Man") and bitterly fresh ("The New Car"); grappling with eternity in the shower on "Master Cleanse (California)"; struggling internally to move forward on "The Opposite of Breathing" -- that favorably recall his brother's intimately honest anecdotal approach. Yes, the shadow of his other band, and specifically of his (incidentally, younger) brother, may be hard to escape when hearing and contemplating this album -- the stylistic similarities are pretty undeniable, and not necessarily to Josiah's advantage -- but the elder Wolf has enough of a distinct voice (and enough to say with it) that Why?'s fans will definitely want to give it a listen -- and those who find Yoni a bit too dizzyingly cerebral might take more kindly to Josiah's sincerity and directness. ~ K. Hair is to plain, what should I do?

My hair is jet black, with a side fringe (bangs) and is straight cut past my shoulders. I have an olive skin tone, what cut and colour do you think would be a good idea? And how would i got about dying black hair?

to dying black hair your going to have to strip it or bleach it first.i would go with longer layers and maybe do some hi-lights..blond and brown or even thro red in there..don't take it to Extreme it will cause alot of damage to your hair in the long run..you mite want to go to a salon to get it done i don't think anyone should use a stripier or bleach at home unless they went to school for hair and know what their doing good luck..
