Sale Restaurant System
I am going into a restaurant business. ?
How do you check if all orders coming from the kitchen are paid by the costumers ? Or that the waiters do not pocket the sales ?I want a system to double check on our employees honesty. Thanks for any advice which could be helpful.
When a table sits down and places an order, the server opens the tab on the computer system and submits the drink and dinner orders there. That computer is linked to a printer in the kitchen, which produces tickets for the cooks which name the server, the table number, the order, and any special instructions (no onions, extra mayo, whatever).
When the customer settles up at the end of the meal, the server enters the payment into the system and the tab is closed.
You can appreciate how difficult it would be to scam such a system. EVERYONE would have to be in on it, and for a $7 sandwich split five ways it's just not worth anyone's time. Servers make more in tips than new owners make in their draws. Nobody is going to steal from you.
There will be walkouts, and they ruin everyone's night, which the restaurant has to absorb because it's illegal to take it out of the attending server's pay, but those are actually quite rare.
As a former server and a current business owner, let me add that assuming your wait staff to be thieves and liars before you've even gotten started is a first-class ticket to turnover hell. You're going to have staff leaving every other week, and the ones you do keep will be the dregs of the restaurant business who can't work anywhere else when you create a management philosophy this hostile to its own employees.

Paying For Things Visa Debit Nationwide?
I have a Nationwide Visa Debit and pleased with it! With this card I can transfer money on the net between my accounts.
Say I went travelling (free use with this card abroad) and had a meal in a restaurant or whatever and paid with this card.
At the time I did not realise that I had enough money in the account to pay for the transaction.
Would the sale go through or does the shop have some sort of way of communicating with the banks computer which tells them insufficient funds?
Or would the Visa clearing system give me a few days ‘grace’ before money was taken from my account-then if short I could always transfer money accordingly.
(If abroad I would check daily to see that I have enough money in the account)

-A debit card spares you from having to write a check and the lag time of a paper check clearing. It offers the convenience of being able to use monies from your checking account in areas where businesses would not take an out of state, or country check. Either way your bank will honor most transactions (up to a point) but will charge you a service fee for funds that are not available for each and every charge you make. Each transaction you make without sufficient funds could cost you around $30 each. It would be a shame to purchase an item worth $10 and then have to pay $30 or so for insufficient funds. You may also want to take into account the bank charges for converting USD into a foreign currency, which is usually a minor amount (less than a dollar in most cases) depending on your bank. I wouldn't expect any "grace period" and then find out later you have several overdraft charges. If any business swipes your card they have the technology to place a hold on funds. I am aware that one is attempting to protect their account from misuse by not depositing large sums of money, however it is the account holders responsibility to have complete knowledge of funds available. Your bank will tell you what amount is available and what charges are pending.
