Tips to Maximize the Value of Your Pos System
It is understood that a point-of-sale or POS system is a valuable piece of equipment, especially since many restaurants and service establishments base their entire transaction record system on the proper use of the POS terminals. Not every establishment with a POS system is getting the most out of their equipment. There are a number of ways that you can drastically increase the value of your POS system to your business. One value of a POS system is that it can help you to increase the amount of profit that you make. Here are some tips on how you can optimize the use of your POS system and maximize its value to your business.
One of the ways in which you can maximize the value of your POS system is to include additional prompts within the system in addition to the basics required to properly take an order. These prompts can include reminders to smile and be friendly toward the customer, lists of specials that customers might be interested in ordering and suggestive selling prompts before an order has been closed out. This can be used to cover any commonly forgotten aspects of taking an order, making sure that each order taken covers all of the essential questions that you want your employees to ask. Suggestive selling prompts can be especially useful, as suggestive selling is one of the most commonly forgotten aspects of the service industry and can yield quite significant profits if done correctly.
Integrating an inventory system within the POS system is another way that it can be used to maximize the efficiency of your restaurant or establishment and prevent employees from placing orders for out-of-stock items. The inventory system integration may not only list the amounts remaining items that are included in the inventory, but also displays a prompt to let the cashier know when they attempt to ring up an item that’s out of stock. Not only does this save time, but it also can save frustration on the part of the customer when the item that they order ends up being out of stock and they have to make a new selection (or worse, decide to go somewhere else to find what they want.)
Another way that the value of your POS system can be maximized is to integrate multiple printers into the system in order to speed up the order fulfillment process. When an order is placed, instead of having the cashier or server have to call the order back and send back a single printed ticket you can have the POS system automatically determine which items on the order should be sent to different stations and have a printer at each station that prints a ticket for only those items. Other additions, such as using advanced printers with multiple ink colors to emphasize special instructions, or indicate that orders are to-go or for a drive-thru window, for example, will also help to streamline the process of processing orders by instantly giving prominence to these important factors.
If you wish to reduce your costs with the POS system, you might consider doing away with printers completely and instead use additional POS monitors at kitchen stations or order fulfillment points. This allows your POS system to display all of the needed information directly on the screen for your employees instead of requiring them to collect and call out printed tickets.
In addition to speeding up the order fulfillment process slightly, this also has the added benefit of being able to provide visual prompts in the form of flashing order boxes or changing colors to show those orders that have been in the system for longer than it should take to process them.
Because the monitors use the same touch-screen POS software as your main registers, cooks and employees can interact directly with the orders to view them and can clear orders that have been sent out with just a touch of the screen. Not only does this reduce the costs that you spend on paper and ink (or thermal paper, if you use thermal printers instead) by having the only printouts be the receipts and guest checks that you provide for customers, but you will also be able to greatly reduce the amount of waste that is produced by your establishment.
Taking the time to realize that the POS system can be so much more than just a simple way to take orders is the first step in maximizing its value and make sure that your customers receive the highest level of service possible. There are many benefits to finding the right POS system and it mostly comes down to the needs of your business and the functionality that you are looking for in a POS system. Research the different options that are available and then choose the ones that are best for you and your business.

Possible new Epson Compatible Cartridge
Compatible ink cartridges for all printers
Home printing can be a challenge when you run out of ink. There are so many different types of cartridges that it's hard to know which one to choose. And of course, some retailers stop stocking the cartridges for older printers when the newer versions come in and then, the printer that you paid over the odds for becomes redundant. Well, not completely redundant.
The internet now plays such a pivotal role in our lives that it is possible to access any piece of information, purchase any thing your mind desires, and share your whole world with the whole world. It is often described as a double-edged sword, and it is surprising how many people are unaware of the problems that are caused by the internet and will continue to be caused. Looking away at the obvious – internet bullying, internet fraud, illegal downloads, you should also consider theft of personal information, and even original thought. Everything is visible, everything is available, and everything can be stolen.
That aside, there are so many positive aspects to the internet, that it would be completely unfathomable to get rid of it as a direct result of these issues, which can be avoided with simple web safety measures.
As stated previously, you can buy whatever is in your minds eye following the click of a mouse and the clatter of a keyboard, and hey presto, a day later, you can even have your groceries at your door in time for breakfast.
Going back to the issue of the redundant printer and how the internet can help, look no further. You can now get compatible ink cartridges for all printers, so when you go to the shop and they say don't stock your particular Canon ink cartridge, type online for canon compatible ink cartridges and you will find various online shops which sell those. If anyone has an Epsom printer, you must know how difficult it is to find Epsom compatible ink cartridges, but again, if you search online for Epsom compatible ink cartridges, you are sure to find the one you need. In fact, it is possible to get any compatible ink cartridges of the internet, due to technological advancements and an awareness of market needs.
Single brand cartridges are soon to be a thing of the past, and all printers will be able to use any compatible ink cartridges, even the oldest of printer bands - Epsom compatible ink cartridges, or Canon compatible ink cartridges.
As for the internet, I believe this will remain a danger to those that do not know how to use it correctly, and those who are not aware of how to keep their information secure, a simple thing such as editing your facebook privacy settings will have a great impact on what you're sharing with the world. You only need to think of people you don't like – do you really want them to know what is going on in your world? Be smart. Be safe.
Compatible Ribbon What ribbon is compatible with this 1 terabyte hard-drive!?
Me and my mom were trying to put in a second hard-drive and the hard-drive ribbons do not match the receptacle on the hard-drive and also none of the white hookups match the other receptacle either.
Here is a picture of the receptacles of the 1 terabyte hard-drive as well as the hard-drive itself we were going to put in..http://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?fid=Inbox&mid=1_164973_ANFVimIAAKrsTNynfQ4IWxLtvWE&pid=1&tnef=&YY=1289529523954&newid=1&clean=0&inline=1
Can't see the pictures. But you're probably trying to connect a SATA HDD to old PATA (or IDE) ribbons... - which doesn't really work. You have to have a SATA 'input' on your motherboard, and power cable adapter to be able to power the hard drive up.

How to Fix Your Pos Machine and Its Ribbons
Today, more and more of our shopping transactions are completed via POS (point of sale) machines. While these machines are convenient and essential in today’s marketplace where credit and debit cards have replaced cash and checks as the primary methods of payment, they aren’t going to be any more error-free than any other technology found in market. Here are some issues that can help you keep your POS machine working fine.
Stop Working after Ribbon Replaced
When the ribbon runs out, you need to replace it with a new one. However, sometimes you may replace the ribbon cartridge only to find that the machine is still being stubborn. In that case, your first check should be to make sure you have installed a compatible ribbon. There are a number of different brands on the market so be sure that you are using the one designed to work with your point of sale machine. If you are using the correct ribbon, the next step may be contacting customer support.
Won’t Print or Work in Anyway
Generally, when your point of sale machine stops working the first step you should take is to check the connections. Most of these machines only come with three cables that are color-coded to match the connections in the back so connecting them isn’t difficult. However, if one of the cables comes loose it can stop the machine from working when you need it to. Wiggle all of the cables to make sure they are all connected. If none of the cables are loose, disconnect and re-connect all three.
Not Printing Receipt
When your POS machine stops printing the receipts, you need to fix the problem immediately. After all, you don’t want to keep customers waiting and you don’t want to send them away without a receipt. The most common reason the receipt isn’t printing is that the ribbon needs to be replaced. Obviously, this is going to happen periodically so make sure you have the supplies you need on hand. Having at least one or two extra ribbons on site is a good idea. If you replace the ribbon and the POS still isn’t printing, you may need to replace the unit.
Quickly Dealing with Problems
While this section doesn’t provide specific tips for problems you may have with your POS system, it does include a couple of tips that may help you make the most of your machine. First, be sure to have the manual available within arm’s reach of the unit. You don’t want to have to search everywhere to find answers when something goes wrong. Second, have customer support’s number on your speed dial. If you’re having a problem that can’t be solved simply by replacing the ribbon or checking the cables, you need answers quickly. Being able to contact technical support quickly is critical.
