Point Sale Printer Will increasing my RAM to 1gb drastically improve performance?
At my office I run 2 point of sale stations with P4 2.8GHz and 512mb ram. I recently did a fresh OS install on each computer because of spyware issues that was seriously slowing performance. Well they are back up and running and they run pretty well, but I they are extremely sluggish, especially when I have a flash based webpage running, as well as our point of sale software and our credit card processing server running in the background. The computer seems to freeze up temporarily when I click print before it actually spools to the network printer. I can't afford new systems and I was wondering if RAM would help me out.
This is often caused by problems in the special Windows system area, called Windows registry.
If it getting corrupt.
The result is: your system becomes increasingly unstable, runs slowly and crashes frequently.

Everything You Need To Know About Your Thermal Printer
In the market today you will find many available printing technologies, each with its own ideal market niche. Printers that use thermal technology are distinguished from other kinds of printers by their ability to use heat i sealing the ink onto the paper that is being printed on. Generally this kind of printer is comprised of a printer head, an ink ribbon, a rubber roller and a roll of specialized thermal paper. The printer head heats up the ink ribbon which is treated with a polyester film backing to print the string of requested text onto the paper, similar to a thermal fax machine. Requested character strings are printed onto the specialty paper by having a rubber roller push the paper up ahead to be pressed against the heated ink ribbon. The speed at which all of this is accomplished is what makes a thermal printer work so well, printing areas of 6-12 inches per second.
Regular ink-jet and laser printers use a different kind of ink, as thermal technology uses an ink that is made from either wax or resin, or a combination of both. There are different shelf lives for each variant so make sure to choose one that is appropriate for your printing purposes. After being printed, wax ink ribbons last for only 2 years at most but are the cheapest variant to purchase. Some point of sales terminals use this kind of ink ribbon to cut costs when printing receipts, which should be scanned or copied in case they are important. If you are looking for a much more durable variant of ink ribbon, a combination of wax and resin is best, especially if printed on fine-toothed paper, as well as papers that are coated with a film coat. Still, the printed product should not be exposed to damp environments and strong chemicals. Resin ink ribbons are the most durable of all ink ribbons but are not made for use with conventional point of sale printers and are instead made for use with plastics.
Most printers that utilize thermal technology can be found in point-of-sale terminals and for printing bar codes for inventory tracking purposes. The ink ribbons of a thermal printer should be protected from both damp environments and strong chemicals when kept in storage. They should also be kept away from strong heat sources and environments as they are sensitive to heat, light and moisture. While thermal printers make for efficient and cost-effective printing solutions in sales and inventory applications, the print quality falters when compared with ink-jet and laser printers. In a segment that typically had only black inks, colored inks are now available in newer thermal printing technologies, however these printers are only recommended for specialty applications that take advantage of their speed as their inability to vary dot size or intensify the printed document results in a grainy product. Register Rolls i dropped something down my heat register/vent?
I had the vent cover off the heat register to clean it and I had an avacado on the counter right above it and it rolled off and into the register. How do i get it out?
already tried a vaccuum
it must be pretty far down there. i don't think a clothes hanger will work
The vacuum cleaner was a good idea - I guess it must be too far down or you didn't quite get the hose close enough to it to capture it.
In any case, it depends on your personal preferences - if you leave it there, the hot dry air passing over it from a few days of normal furnace operation should dry it out and it shouldn't be a problem. It'd be worse in the warm weather when the furnace is off, as then it probably would have time to rot.
However, if you really want to get it out of there, and if you can't see it, you could try taping a small mirror onto a stick at a 45 degree angle, stick it down there and shine a flashlight on it. If the avocado is close enough you might be able to snag it with something.
Failing that (and I suspect you might), you'd need to disconnect the duct and try to roll it out by lowering the end, or pushing up on parts of it to try to chase it out.

How to Register in Electoral Rolls
The Electoral Roll And Your Credit Rating
Most people realise there are a number of ways they can influence their credit rating. The better your credit rating is, the more likely it is you will be granted any credit you subsequently apply for.
But one particularly important way of improving your credit report is rather topical at the moment, purely because the upcoming General Election is about to take place on the 6th May. In order to get your vote you need to be registered on the electoral roll; if you aren't you won't be able to choose which party you would like to lead the country during the next few years.
Many people believe the only reason for having the electoral roll is to get the vote they are entitled to. But this is not the case, although it is of course very important in this sense. In addition to this you could run into problems with your credit report if you are not properly registered.
Let's suppose you decide to apply for a new credit card. You fill out the forms and wait for the credit card company to respond. They have to perform a number of checks to ensure you are who you say you are, and no one else is applying for a card in your name. In addition to this they will also check your credit record to see how credit worthy you would be as a potential customer. If they think they might have problems with you not paying, they will not accept you as a customer.
One of the most important things they will check is whether or not you are registered on the electoral roll. Just imagine if you were deciding whether or not to give someone credit and their name and details did not appear on that list. How would you react? Would you feel suspicious towards them?
Even if everything is above board and you are who you say you are you can expect to have difficulties in getting credit in this situation. As you can see, the electoral roll is vitally important to everyone – even if you have no intention of ever voting.
The good news is that regardless of what else you may have on your credit history, if you are not on the electoral roll and you apply to be put on it, your credit record will be improved as a result. It is a simple step to take and your credit score will certainly benefit from you doing so.
Whatever happens when the General Election is finally over, at least you can rest in the knowledge that you have taken a big step in making your credit record as good as it can possibly be.

I've been playing my school's tenor sax for awhile now. I'm a good player, but the sax seems to have some problems. From the notes high A all the way on up to high C# are extremely out of tune and very, very sharp. The rest of the notes are in tune but just those upper register key notes are the ones out of tune. What can I do to fix this problem?
extra info:
It's a CONN Tenor Sax
Some of the problem could be the horn or the reed. You should see if the horn has any any air leaks or if something is out of alignment. You should use a good 3 or 4 reed (don't use Rico and make sure the wood grain goes with the reed). Your embochure and the amount of air is the other problem. You need to relax your grip on the mouthpiece when you play the higher notes. Also you may increase the amount of air you put through the horn when hit the high notes, causing them to go sharp. Hope this helps.

The importance of proper bookkeeping/accounting to small business owners
Proper bookkeeping is important to sustaining and expanding a business. Without it, you run the risk of hitting cash flow crunches, wasting money, and missing out on opportunities to expand. When you are devising or revising your bookkeeping routine, remember that the purpose of bookkeeping is to help you manage your business and to enable tax agencies to evaluate your business activity. As long as your bookkeeping achieves both of these objectives, it can - and should - be as simple as possible.
The general guidelines here outline what you must take care of and provide ideas for how to keep your books in an orderly manner. But before making any decisions regarding bookkeeping, check with your accountant or tax preparer because bookkeeping needs vary dramatically by business. Many small business owners choose to use software to keep track of various aspects of their business, and resources are provided here to help you institute computer automation.
The key to taking full advantage of bookkeeping software is to determine if it saves you time and frees you up to concentrate on running your business. In many cases it will, but be careful not to fall into the trap of wasting time setting up computer bookkeeping that could be more efficiently handled on paper. The paper bookkeeping forms mentioned here can be obtained from most stationary stores.
Some bookkeeping functions are best relegated to an accountant. While it is essential to retain a thorough knowledge by reviewing your books frequently, an accountant or bookkeeper can free you up to concentrate on expanding your business. Even a bookkeeping task that takes only a few hours a week may be better relegated to someone else if that time can be better spent.
Revenues and Expenses Your business will use either a Revenue and Expense Journal or a Ledger to keep track of how much money is going out, where it is going, and what is coming in.
A Revenue and Expense Journal is used by most small businesses and is single-entry accounting -- recording receipts and expenditures only. Double entry accounting involves a ledger and necessitates that each activity be recorded as a debit and a credit on your books. In the past it was thought that all businesses needed to use the more cumbersome method of double-entry, but the single entry system is now used for many small business owners. Single-entry accounting can be kept on paper or computer. Programs that perform single-entry accounting include Quicken by Intuit and Microsoft Money among many others.
A ledger is used to record every transaction twice based on the idea that each transaction has two halves that affect your business. For example, if you sell an item, your books would reflect a decrease in inventory (a credit) and a inflow of payment (debit). If you use double-entry accounting you may want to use a computer program or a bookkeeper to keep your ledger up to date. If you allow anyone else to keep your books be sure you review them regularly. Programs that do double-entry bookkeeping include: M.Y.O.B by Teleware, Peachtree Accounting by Peachtree Software, and Quickbooks by Intuit. Your accountant can advise you on which type of recordkeeping you should choose. Also consult your tax advisor about whether you should use a cash or accrual-based bookkeeping system.
Cash Expenditures Cash spent in your business needs to be accounted for if you want to record all business expenses in a given year. There are at least two ways to do this: write yourself reimbursable checks or keep a petty cash record. If you choose to pay yourself back with a check, simply keep track of all cash receipts and total them weekly, biweekly or monthly, depending on your volume of expenses. Keep a log of each category of expense, for tax purposes and write yourself a check for the total. Write cash reimbursable in your check register to differentiate this from taxable income. Alternatively, you can keep a petty cash record by writing a check to petty cash and keeping a log of each expense paid out of petty cash.
Inventory Records Keeping on top of your inventory records will enable you to prevent pilferage, keep inventory holdings to a minimum, and track buying trends, among other things. If you sell a large number of small-ticket items -- for example, as in a stationary store -- you might want to use a computer system to track inventory or tie your computer system into your sales by having a POS (point of sale) inventory system. If you sell larger ticket items you may be able to do it yourself on paper. The crucial inventory information you need to capture is: date purchased, stock number of item purchased, purchase price, date sold, and sale price.
Accounts Receivable If your products or services are paid for at time of delivery, you will not need an accounts receivable tracking system. However, if you provide services or products for which people pay you at a later date, your accounts receivable records keep track of what is owed to you. You can monitor accounts receivable by holding on to a copy of all invoices sent out or by keeping an accounts receivable record. Either way, the information you need to capture includes: invoice date, invoice number, invoice amount, terms, date paid, amount paid, and the name of the entity being billed.
Many software programs are available to help you generate invoices and track hours and expenses incurred for each client. These programs can save hours of time for a business owner and create professional-looking invoices. But, according to Ed Slott, author of "Your Tax Questions Answered", (Plymouth Press) keeping your accounts receivable on computer is sensible if it enables you to collect payment more quickly or get a better handle on where your money comes from. Otherwise a paper system is very effective. Software programs that will create invoices or track hours include: QuickInvoice by Intuit software; Timeslips and WinInvoice by Good Software; and PerForm Pro Plus from Delrina.
Accounts Payable Accounts payable are debts owed by your company for goods and services. Keeping track of what you owe and when it is due will enable you to establish good credit and hold onto your money as long as possible. Business owners with few accounts payable items use accordion file folders labeled with dates to keep track. Other small firms simply pay bills twice per month and keep all bills in a "To Pay" folder. Larger companies use accounts payable paper records organized by creditor. Regardless of the system you choose, you should retain the following information about accounts payable: invoice date, invoice number, invoice amount, terms, date paid, amount paid, balance (if applicable), and clients names and address.
